Human rights is Human needs

On the occasion of the 71st anniversary of International Human Rights Day, December 10, Yeng Virak, President of the Grassroots Democratic Party, wrote on his Facebook: Human Rights is Human needs.

Virak further wrote, it's time to stop getting confused, stop being sensitive, stop being angry, stop hating "human rights"! When we talk about human rights, we talk about the need for people to live with dignity. Everyone was born with a basic need (for human rights, he added.

Regarding the obligations of the government, especially the CPP-led government to respect, protect and fulfill the human rights needs of citizens, Virak stressed that the government (led by the ruling party) has an obligation to respect, protect and fulfill the human rights of all people.

In stating whether or not Cambodia has a human rights violation, Virak said that human rights violations occur when the government (the competent authority) fails to carry out its obligations in respect, protect and fulfill the human needs (of human rights).

In order to ensure proper implementation and enforcement of the law, Mr. Virak emphasized that the laws must be ensured and ​enable to be respected, protected and fulfilled the needs of human rights by the citizens, that is not to restrict human rights! Rule of law can occur when there is a balance of power and control between the legislative, executive and judicial powers, he added.

The Meaning of International Human Rights Day, December 10

Sam Inn: We ourselves have to rebuild a strong and powerful Khmer Nation

Sam Inn, the General Secretary of the Grassroots Democratic Party, GDP wrote on his Facebook wall today, December 8, 2019 criticizing Cambodian politicians. Below is what he wrote:

There have been suggestions that Cambodia is weakened by internal strife for power.

If we explore the history of other countries, especially our neighbors, Thailand and Vietnam, there is an internal conflict over power as well. However, there are some notable differences.

For example, Thaksin and Ms Yingluck, the elected Thai prime minister were illegally deported, but we have never heard Thaksin or Yingluck call abroad to help resolve or punish Thailand.

Of course, they both may also need some foreign support in his political struggle, and he quietly asked for help without the Thai people knowing. Why not?

First GDP's Congress, August 2, 2015

Because as a leader of a nation, they know that if they train their people to live in a spirit of dependence on other foreign countries, their citizens will lose their self-confidence in their fight and rely on others that will wither the nations, and it will not be able to stand and always be in the spirit of as loser.

After the Longvek era, Cambodian politicians preferred to rely on foreign nationals to help in internal conflicts to fight for power, and to shout out to their citizens that they were very strong and smart with foreigners waiting to settle behind. 

It is time for the Cambodian political leaders to change this mindset so that we can rebuild a strong and powerful Khmer nation.

A Joint statement between CPP and CNRP

In the spirit of the July 22, 2014 agreement between CPP and CNRP, and to promote the better implementation of a multi-party liberal democracy, CPP who lead the government and CNRP who are not in the government are committed to effectively implementing a culture of dialogue with respect to the following principles:

1. To be honest with each other to have a culture of dialogue as a basis for a peaceful resolution of all national and social issues that both parties may disagree.
2. Respect and value each other.
3. Must avoid incitement, smearing, profanity, and blasphemy such as the use of words "the Yuon head with Khmer body", "the communist", "the dictator", "the Yuon puppet", "the treason" "the nation seller", "the theft head", "the theft".
4. Avoid threat and intimidation in any form, such as using words of imprisonment, war break out.
5. Eliminating the mindset of hostility and revenge which means ending the politic culture that "Fish eat the ants while there is a high tide, and the ants eat fish while there is a low tide.
6. Eliminate racist and extremist politics.
7. Regularly educate party officials, members and supporters of their respective parties from national to local levels to carry out the above principles effectively onward.

In the context of the culture of dialogue, the two parties have to maintain the use of democratic mechanisms in their respective roles and duties, in which criticisms with dignify against inertia and negativity in the sense and purpose of construction as a mirror to improve the state institutions and government policies for better national development.

Rural Development Bank needs to have at least $ 200 million in hand to stabilize the Cambodian rice sector

The Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) welcomes the government to allocate $ 50 million to the Rural Development Bank to stabilize Cambodia's rice sector, albeit at a modest but good start.

The Grassroots Democratic Party sees that the Rural Development Bank now needs to have at least $ 200 million to help Cambodian businesspersons in rice industry with that existing $ 50 million plus an additional $ 50 million will be allocated by the Royal Government of Cambodia to the Rural Development Bank, totaling $ 100 million. As a result, the Rural Development Bank still needs to have another $100 million.

At the same time, the Grassroots Democratic Party demands that the money be distributed transparently to the rice millers and the farming community, in rice producers with the  low-interest.
Meanwhile, the Grassroots Democratic Party also hailed the government for transforming the Rural Development Bank into a rural and agricultural development bank.

GDP's policy states in Article 16 of their Green book that the government (led by GDP) institutes a National Agricultural Credit Program to provide loans to the producing farmers' communities with the interest of only 2% per year. Communities can use the loaned capital to build agricultural collected an dried vegetable stocks, and trucks for transporting agricultural products from members.

The community also uses this the loaded capital to extend its loan to members, with the loan amount up to 25 million Riel, at a rate of 0.5% per month (6% per year) and repayment period of up to 5 years.

What is Smart Farming?

According to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Smart Farming is a farming management concept using modern technology to increase the quantity and quality of agricultural products. Farmers in the 21st century have access to GPS, soil scanning, data management, and Internet of Things technologies. By precisely measuring variations within a field and adapting the strategy accordingly, farmers can greatly increase the effectiveness of pesticides and fertilizers, and use them more selectively. Similarly, using Smart Farming techniques, farmers can better monitor the needs of individual animals and adjust their nutrition correspondingly, thereby preventing disease and enhancing herd health.

The Price of Cambodia's cucumber have sharply dropped

Phnom Penh, November 30, 2019: Cambodian farmers who grow cucumbers this year work very hard to hopefully make a good money.

However, on their harvesting, the price is hopeless. One Cambodian Facebook user posted on his wall read:

how pity the cucumber farmers are! They worked day and night. Before harvesting, the price of the cucumber is between 2000 and 3000 Riels (Cambodian Currency) (about $0.50 and $0.75) per kilogram. On the harvesting, the price is sharply dropped. It is between 150 and 200 Riels (about 0.0375 and 0.050). How can they survive!

Are The Sub-National Government Levels in Their Idleness?

In relation to Ou Chhunh Primary School in Tuek Krohorm Commune of Preah Vihea's Choam Ksan District (see photo below), what are the sub-national government levels doing? What is the Cambodia's Ministry of Education doing?

The sub-national government levels include commune councils, district office of education, district governor, provincial department of education.

Is the budget for the construction of a local school included in the 2020 $8200 million national budget plan?

Grassroots Democratic Party, GDP, meanwhile, find that 25 percent of the national budget (or up to $ 1 million) should be allocated to each commune. That will help solve many local problems without disrupting the Prime Minister's daily job.

Why have Cambodians still economically not grown?

Questions have been raised as to why the Thai government always supports farmers in terms of capital and markets. Why are so many Cambodians hospitalized in Thai hospitals? And why do so many Cambodians go to work in Thailand? And so forth.

In response to the above questions, we would like to suggest that it is the Thai people and politicians who value the policies of agriculture, health, economy and employment as well as the policy of social affairs.

Most Cambodian people and politicians still value war and peace, treason and patriotism, Vietnamese and the Vietnamese puppetry, individualism or authoritarianism (there must me one without the other).

For Cambodia to be grown and more prosperous than Thailand, we must value the competition in policies to solve the problems of farmers, workers, youth and the general population and national issues in a free democratic and pluralistic principles, and stop the hateful propaganda, the tension between the Khmer due to the tendency to a political party and no longer adopting a stand-alone mindset, there must be only me, not you or you without me.

The Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) values the competition with good policies and ideas to help farmers invest in irrigation system,  markets and the know-how, and create jobs for workers. In addition, GDP value good public services, hospitals and schools. At the same time, we do not value individualism or selfishness as it is a barrier to economic growth.

Ratanakiri, September 8, 2016: A group of Paralegals from 27 indigenous communities in Ratanakiri are trained on Human Rights and Business, according to Mr. Lay Sovathara, Head of Access to Justice from Community Legal Education Center (#CLEC), who wrote on his Facebook status September 8, 2016.


The training which is and will be taking place (September 8 - 9, 2016) is organised by CLEC and #ICSO (Indigenous Community Support Organisation) is under facilitation and support by United Nations Human Rights Office of High Commissioner Cambodia, #OHCHR.

Nine Cambodian Protesters Arressted

Phnom Penh, September 4, 2016: at about 9 AM Sunday morning, nine people were arrested by the authority of Phnom Penh's Dongkor district. Those who were arrested and other people were preparing balloons to be released into the air (near Phnom Penh's Prey Sor prison) as the expression to demand Tep Vanny, human rights defenders, and an official from Cambodia's National Elections Committee to be free from prison, Puthisak Chan wrote on his Facebook status Sunday morning, September 4, 2016.

Among those nine people who were arrested, one woman known as an old lady Nget Khun from Boeung Kok community, five people including a girl from Thmor Kol community (near Phnom Penh International Airport), and three balloon vendors (father and sons), Puthisak states on his Facebook status.
